Adaptations

We have a range of Motability vehicles which are eligible for a range of adaptations available to assist your accessibilty, storage and driveability. Please find the range of adaptations availble below.

Push/Pull (Hand Control Systems)

  • Push/pull hand controls are a simple adaptation. The driver pushes the lever to brake and pulls the lever to accelerate.
  • Hand controls can be fitted to any vehicle and the pedals remain fully operational.
  • The steering column is fixed position once fitted.
  • We strongly recommend the addition of a steering wheel ball and an indicator switch on the lever. This ensures the driver retains full control of the vehicle at all times.

MPS Radial (Hand Control Systems)

MPS Radial (Hand Control Systems)

  • The MPS Radial hand control incorporates a very popular method of operation that reduces fatigue.
  • The brakes are applied by pushing the lever toward the dashboard.
  • The accelerator is applied by a downward movement toward the driver’s lap at a right angle to the brake.

Over ring (Hand Control Systems)

  • Over ring controls offer another way to accelerate. This is done by pushing down a ring that is situated above the steering wheel. The driver pushes a separate lever to brake.
  • Only a very light action is required and so this helps with fatigue.
  • Also both hands are retained in contact with the steering wheel for added control.

Under ring (Hand Control Systems)

  • Under ring control offers yet another way to accelerate. This is done by pulling up a ring that is situated behind the steering wheel. The driver pushes a separate lever to brake.
  • Only a very light action is required and so this helps with fatigue.
  • Also both hands are retained in contact with the steering wheel for added control.

Swivel Seat - Manual (Seat Modifications)

  • The rotating car seat is designed specifically to aid entry and exit from vehicles.
  • Suitable only for passengers in the front seat of a vehicle.
  • A lever allows the seat to rotate through 90o to enable the passenger to access the vehicle.
  • Armrests, Lumbar Support & Memory Foam Cushions are all available as options.
  • Not compatible with all vehicles.

Tip-Up Plate (Seat Modifications)

  • The tip-up plate is available in manual and electronic form.
  • It is used by people who find it difficult to transfer from the wheelchair to the car seat and vice versa.
  • It serves as a transfer bridge between car seat and wheelchair and can be installed on the driver or the passenger side.

Left foot accelerator - electronic (Pedal Modifications)

  • JDHC recommend this Left Foot Accelerator. An additional accelerator pedal is mounted to the left of the brake pedal.
  • Only one accelerator pedal is active at any given time.
  • A switch on the dash board allows the driver to choose which pedal to operate.

Pedal Extensions (Pedal Modifications)

  • A pedal extension can be fitted for customers whose feet do not reach the original pedal comfortably.
  • These can be tailor made to suit the individual customer

Lightened Power Steering (Steering Modifications)

  • Our expert engineers can reduce the amount of effort required to turn the steering wheel.
  • We can adjust to your specific needs after being assessed on site.
  • Contact us to find out if your vehicle can be adjusted.

Foot Steering (Steering Modifications)

  • A disc is positioned in the foot well to enable the vehicle to be driven without the use of upper limbs.

Secondary Controls (Steering Modifications)

  • Wireless keypad controls system allow drivers with restricted mobility to operate the secondary functions of a car safely with one hand.
  • Simply pressing a button activates the required function e.g. horn, indicators, lights etc.
  • Wireless keypad controls can range from simple 7 function systems, through to 10 and 13 function systems controlling nearly all the periphery vehicle controls.
