The Benefits to You

Choosing an Electric or Hybrid car has a positive impact on the environment - but it has benefits to motorists too.

Thanks to lower running and maintenance costs, they're cheaper to own compared to a petrol or diesel car. Plus, many of them offer a more dynamic drive, due to the instant torque produced by the electric motor.

Electric Vehicles Explained

Electric vehicles come in a variety of forms, so it’s worth knowing how each option works before making your choice.

Below, we’ve provided a brief explanation of the types available.

FAQ's

Mild hybrid

A mild hybrid vehicle is powered by a petrol or diesel engine, but also has an electric motor, which provides a boost to acceleration and helps to reduce emissions when cruising. The electric motor isn’t large enough to power the car on its own, and is charged by the combustion engine.

Plug-in Hybrid

Plug-in hybrid cars (PHEVs) have both a combustion engine and an electric motor. They can run on electric-only power, petrol or diesel-only, or a combination of both. The battery pack needs to be plugged in to charge it up.

Full Hybrid

A full or self-charging hybrid uses a small battery and electric motor to support the main petrol or diesel engine. It has the same function as in a mild hybrid system, but there is often the capacity to travel a handful of miles on electric-only power.

Electric

Electric cars don’t have a petrol or diesel engine at all, replacing it with a rechargeable battery pack and electric motor. The battery must be plugged in to charge it up, and it powers the motor which then turns the wheels. These vehicles are the cleanest option, as they emit no CO2 or NOx.

FAQs - Lots of our customers have questions when it comes to choosing an electric or hybrid car. Here, we’ve answered some of the most commonly asked.

The best electric car for you depends on your specific needs and preferences. There are different powertrains, body styles and specifications available here at Unity Automotive, and our advisors will be happy to help you choose the option that suits you best.

Charge times depend on the powertrain of your vehicle and the type of charging point being used. A domestic wallbox, for example, typically has a lower output than a public charging station, meaning it’ll take longer to charge the car.

The range of your electric car depends on the make and model you choose, as well as how you drive it. Chat to our advisors today to learn about your chosen vehicle’s range.

Unity Automotive Group Limited is an Appointed Representative of Automotive Compliance Ltd, who is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA No 497010). Automotive Compliance Ltd’s permissions as a Principal Firm allows Unity Automotive Group Limited to act as a credit broker, not as a lender, for the introduction to a limited number of lenders and to act as an agent on behalf of the insurer for insurance distribution activities only. We can introduce you to a selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. An introduction to a lender does not amount to independent financial advice and we act as their agent for this introduction. Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next best offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure the best deal you are eligible for from our panel of lenders. Lenders may pay a fixed commission to us for introducing you to them, calculated by reference to the vehicle model or amount you borrow. Different lenders may pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement, all of which are set by the lender concerned. If you ask us what the amount of commission is, we will tell you in good time before the Finance agreement is executed. All finance applications are subject to status, terms and conditions apply, UK residents only, 18’s or over. Guarantees may be required.
